Gombash Family Update; June 21, 2004
Hello Everyone,
A cousin of mine through my grandma Mary Lou's family sent me some pictures
today. He just recently went traveling to Poland. I had asked him if he could
make a stop in a small village named Barycz, and he said he could. Barycz is the
village that grandma Catherine (Grzadziel) Gombash was born. So, he took some
pictures and sent them to me. He also made a video of a home in the village that
is currently owned by another Grzadziel family. He also made video of the
landscape. I have put the pictures on the website. They are on the main Gombash
page on the right side in a table. It is titled "NEW!! Pictures from Barycz,
Place of birth for Grandma Catherine Gombash".
I have also made a connection with another cousin. Her name is Jessica Green. We
have actually been in contact for a while, but did not know we were cousins. We
first got in contact when we found that we both had Toth's from Tiszadob. We are
not related through the Toth family, but through the Bodogh family. But
wait...there is more! I told her about how the family legend says there is a
King in the family. Her grandmother (a Bodogh relative) has told her family that
they also descend from royalty. In her version, she said that they are descended
from a Prince who then married a gypsy. Because he married the gypsy he was no
longer the heir to the throne. Jessica and I are the same generation from our
common ancestor. It would make us 6th cousins. If you are a generation before
me, it would make you 5th cousins once removed.
I have looked through more nobility (royalty) records, searching in hope of
information on our Bodogh family...but with no luck. If you would like printed
out ancestry sheets, just email me and let me know. I'll keep searching!
Best Regards,

Family Update; February 27, 2003
Hi All,
I found three major
records last night researching. The first is the birth record for Sándor (Alex
Sr.) Gombash. He was born on February 21, 1872 (not the 22 as everyone in the
family has), and was baptized on February 27, 1872. He was born in household
number 1041, in Büdszentmihály. It lists his godparents as Balázs Róka and Sára
Szabó.
The second record I found
is the marriage record for József Gombás and Zsusána Gulyás. They were married
on December 15, 1869...which is what is on József's death record.
The third record I found
is a birth/baptism record for a son for József Gombás and Zsusána Gulyás! Alex
Sr. had a brother...I couldn't find any more birth records for any more
siblings, but I will search again just in case I missed some. The name of the
son is Balázs Gombás. He was born on August 23, 1877 in house number 1041, same
as his brother Alex Sr. He was baptized on August 28, 1877. It lists his
godparents as Balázs Róka and Sára Szabó (same as Alex Sr.).
I plan to go to the
church again tonight and do more research. I will let you all know what I find,
if I find anything new! Have a good day!

Family Update; February 21, 2003
Hello Everyone!
I have some new information! I was searching through the
records last night
and I came across the death record for József Gombás, which is the father of
Alex (Sándor) Sr. Gombash. The record listed his birth, marriage, death,
and
burial dates. He was born on May 19, 1845, was married on December 15,
1869 to
wife Zsusána Gulyás, had died on November 10, 1885 in Büdszentmihály, and was
buried on November 12, 1886 in Büdszentmihály.
Also, in the column that the marriage date was in, there also stated that
he
was married for 17 years and had one son. So, our Alex (Sándor) Sr.
Gombash
was an only child!
It also lists the house number that he had past away in. He had
died in
house number 1041, the same household that son Alex (Sándor) Sr. was born in.
I also found a baptism record for what could possibly be a nephew to
József
and Zsusána Gombás. There is a Károly (which would mean Carl or Charles)
Gulyás
(Zsusána's maiden name), born on August 8, 1885 and baptised on August 11, 1885
to the parents named Károly Gulyás and Sárah Oláh. It then lists József
and
Zsusána as the godparents of young Károly Gulyás.
Well, that is really all of the information that I found that would be of
use
to the family in the records I ordered now. When the next records come in,
I
will fill you all in on what I find!!
Sincerely,
Nick M. Gombash

Family Update; February 12, 2003
Hello Everyone!
How is everyone doing?
I'm great! Last night, at the LDS mormon church, doing research on the family,
I came across the marriage record of Sándor Gombás and Eszter Tóth. The church
record doesn't list the actual day, for some reason. But, I have an estimated
date of marriage for them. They were married sometime between March 10 and 25,
in 1895 in Büdszentmihály (where Sándor was born). The record lists their age,
birthplace, religion, martial status, parents, witnesses, pastor, and dates of
which the marriage was announced.
Eszter Tóth was listed as
being born in "Tisza-Dob", which is nothing new to us. Her parents were listed
as Károly Tóth and Mária Tóth (yes, that is her maiden name!!...but it is ok,
because Tóth is one of the most popular last names in Hungary).
Sándor Gombás was listed
as being born in house number 1041 in Büdszentmihály. I will see if I can find
any maps to locate the exact position of the house. His parents were listed as
József Gombás and Zsusánna Gulyás, as we already know.
I have copies of their
marriage record if you would like a copy..just ask. Well, that is enough for
now. Hopefully more later!!!
Sincerely,
Nick Gombash

Family Update; February 9, 2003
Hi All,
The records I had ordered from Büdszentmihály, where the Gombash's are from,
have finally come in! (after 11 weeks!! took long enough!). I had ordered the
years of 1884-1895 for the village. I didn't have much time to look through all
the records on Friday (2-7-03), hoping to find Alex Sr. Gombash and Esther
Toth's marriage record for in 1894, but I just skimed through all of it just
looking for Gombash. There were a whole bunch of em!! I did come across the
names of the parents of Alex Sr. Gombash. They are József Gombás and Szuzána
Gulyás. They were listed as the godparents of a newborn child, but I
accidentally forgot to get that families information. So on Tuesday, I will be
there again, copying down all the Gombás's and Gulyás's, so when the next
records come in (the years would be from 1866-1883), I will be hopefully able to
connect them into the family somehow. But if not, the earlier records from
1737-1865, will most likely hold the answers. One last thing...the records are
from the Reformed Church in that village. I didn't know if you all knew the
religion or not. I will let you all know all the new information that I find
out on Tuesday!
Your Cousin,
Nick M. Gombash
