Obituary of Robert Gombash

BROKEN BACK IS
FATAL TO MINER

Robert Gombash, Injured
Last Saturday, Succumbs
in Butler Hospital.

A broken back, received shortly after midnight Saturday morning, September 29, caused the death of Robert Gombash, aged 36, of 16 Lincoln avenue, at the Butler County Memorial hospital yesterday afternoon.
Gombash, who had been working at the Wonderly mine for a number of years, was working the night trick cutting coal and operating a cutting machine when suddenly a fall of slate from the roof of the mine fell, stricking him in the back.
Fellow workmen hurried to his assistance, brought him to the surface and he was taken to the hospital in the Chambers ambulance.
Little hope was held for his recovery from the start. He remained in a critical condition and gradually became weaker.
Coroner M. E. Headland, who investigated the accident, gave a verdict of death due to a fractured spine.
He was born in Hungary, the son of Esther and the late Alex Gombash.
Surviving are his widow, Katie Gombash; a daughter, Catherine, and two sons, Robert and Alex, at home; his mother, Esther Gombash of Tiltonville, O.; foursisters, Mrs. Susie Dudash of Clintonville, Mrs. Esther Hogha, Mrs. Elizabeth Dudash and Miss Julia Gombash of Tiltonville, O.; and three brothers, Joseph of Hungary, Alex of West Virginia and Dellis Gombash of Tiltonville.
The body was removed to the McCoy Funeral home in Saxonburg and will be taken to the family home, 16 Lincoln avenue, Butler, today.
Funeral service will be held from the family residence, 16 Lincoln avenue, Butler at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon with Rev. W. O. David, pastor of the Lyndora Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial will be in the Eau Claire cemetery.
