On 29 Mar 1780 in Sullivan County, North Carolina, Richard Davis entered a claim of 200 acres and a survey was ordered on 18 Aug 1781 as warrant #369. John Payne and William Terrell had a survey completed on 15 Sep 1794 by Stockley Donelson for the same 200 acre tract for warrant #369. The tract of land was described as being in Knox County "lying on the North side of Holston River on a path that leads from Mr. Lemares to Richland Creek about 2 miles from said Lemares; beginning at a black oak on the point of a grassy ridge opposite a cave, running thence North 33 1/2 West 110 poles to a stake, thence South 66 West 160 poles to a stake, thence South 33 1/2 East 220 poles to a stake, thence North 66 East 160 poles to a stake, then a direct course to the beginning." On 8 Jul 1793 in ____, Richard Davis assigned land warrant #367 to Edward Costlow for "value received." On an unstated date, likely the same day, Ed. Costillow assigned the same land warrant over to John Alles for "value received."

The land was described as being in "Greene County on the North side of French Broad River on Dumplan Creek, adjoining lines with james Allesons entry." The chain-carriers for the survey was John Cam[p]ble and John Tharp.
