Chronological Timeline:
Samuel Howell enlisted on 4 Nov 1775 during the Revolutionary War into the 2nd South Carolina Regiment, commanded by Lt. Col. Marion. He was discharged from service on 17 Jul 1778.
The 1790 federal census has Samuel Howell enumerated in Laurens County, South Carolina. Some of his neighbors were George Cobb, Zebulin Sawing, John Norris, Claybourn Simms, William Simms, Absalom Bobo and a John Howell. The subsequent page has a William Howell and these were the only Howells enumerated within Laurens County; it's clear they all lived relatively close to one another. Their households consisted of the following:

On 13 Apr 1793 in Franklin County, Georgia, Joseph Dobbs sold 108 acres of land to Samuel Howel for 10 pounds sterling. The land was described as "lying and being on the waters of Broad River; beginning at a corner post oak on old line running S 70 W 35 chains to corner post oak, thence S 20 E 19 chains to a corner post oak in Harbours land, thence along Harbours line N 65 W 30 chains to a pine corner in Kingsaid land, thence N 25 E 40 chains to a pine corner in said Dobbs land, thence South 65 E 40 chains to a corner post oak in said Dobbs land, thence S 20 E 2 chains to the beginning." It was part of a 500 acre survey originally granted to said Dobbs. The witnesses to the deed were J. Gorham JP and __ Wmson. The deed was recorded on 2 Apr 1795.

On 21 Jun 1793 in Franklin County, Georgia, Joseph Dobbs sold 100 acres of land to Samuel Howel for 30 pounds sterling. The land was described as "lying on the waters of Garrets River; begining at a white oak on Cooks line thence along said line N 70 W 13 chains to a corner pine bounded by land of Cooks, thence N 87 West 24 chains to a corner red oak adjoining land Thomas Rayborns, thence South 10 West 50 chains to a corner pine bounded by Crawfords land, thence South 60 East 11 chains to hickory corner, thence North 25 East 16 chains to a corner maple on a branch, then down said branch to the begining." The witnesses to the deed were Peter Wiliamson JP and Robert Shipley. The deed was recorded on 2 Apr 1795.

On 28 Mar 1797 in Warren County, Georgia, Moses Going and his wife Agness sold 100 acres of land to Samuel Howell for 100 pounds sterling. The land was described as lying "on the waters of a Creek called Long Creek; begining at the branch on an ash, thence running South to the corner on a red oak, thence N 45 W 44-42 to a black oak, thence N 48 E 4 to the branch and thence down the meanders of the branch to the beginning." The land was bounded by Moses Going on the North, Bankson on the East, Reely on the South, and Frunf and Parishs lands on the West. The land was originally part of a grant issued to Edmond Newgant on 25 Sep 1784. The witnesses to the deed were Isaac Banckston and Robt. Johnson. The deed was proven on 17 Feb 1798 by Robert Johnson and was recorded on 27 Nov 1799.

Samuel Howell later sold this tract of land on 8 Apr 1801 in Warren County, Georgia, from to Thomas Friend for $400. The deed describes the same tract of land originally granted to Thomas Nugent on 25 Sep 1784. The witnesses were Wm. Gardner and Pryor Gardner JP. The deed was recorded on 2 Jun 1803.

The 1800 and 1801 tax lists for Franklin County, Georgia shows Samuel Howel-Howell amongst Lewis Jones, Sutton Green, Thomas Westbrook, Esias-Isauis [Isaias] Harbour, Fredrick and Sampson Braswell, Robert Shipley, William and James Little, John Blackwell and Thomas Bell. Neighbor Thomas Westbrook seems to be connected to L[ewis] Bobo.
These tax lists show that Samuel Howell owned two tracts of land:
108 acres of land on Indian Creek that was originally granted to J. Dobbs; this tract was adjoining Isaias Harbour and Moulder
100 acres on Indian Creek that was also originally granted to J. Dobbs; this tract was adjoining Thomas Westbrook
On 10 Feb 1806 in Franklin County, Georgia, Samuel Howell sold 108 acres of land to James Tate for $200. The land was described as the same 108 acres originally purchased from Joseph Dobbs on 13 Apr 1793. The witnesses to the deed were Fredk. Beall JP, Jonathan J. Hays and William Howell. The deed was recorded on 18 Apr 1807.

On [page missing] in Franklin County, Georgia, Samuel Howell sold property to Sterling Williamson. The witnesses to the deed were William Howell, John Williamson and Jas. H. Little. The deed was recorded on 13 Oct 1808.
NOTE: The first half of the page is missing. The is presumably the 100 acre tract originally purchased from Joseph Dobbs on 21 Jun 1793.

The Barren County, Kentucky tax lists shows Samuel Howell's son Raleigh Howell arrived in the area about 1802. Samuel Howell and his other son William Howell arrived a few years later, about 1807.

On 25 Jun 1807 in Barren County, Kentucky, a survey was completed for Samuel Howell for 100 acres of land. The was in regards to certificate #886 and the land was described as "beginning at a poplar and dogwood near Roly Howels line, thence S 67 E 90 poles to a buckeye hickory and dogwood in Hungary, thence down the same N 50 E 80 poles to a stake on Deans line, thence with the same N 25 W crossing Hungary 144 poles to two white oaks, thence N 75 W 40 poles to a buck and black gum, thence S 60 W 60 poles to two buckeyes, thence S 10 E 125 poles to the beginning."
