The Rodgers Family Y-DNA
Several years ago, I had a Rodgers-line male first cousin take a Y-DNA test to ascertain where our Rodgers family belongs within the much larger Rogers-Rodgers Surname Project; as of Sep 2025 there are 1062 men tested within this project. The test that cousin Tom Mackovitch took was a Y12, the smallest test available, and I plan on upgrading this test as soon as possible. This data places the Rodgers male line going back to James & Margaret Rodgers in haplogroup R-M269. These are the results from Tom's test:
Marker DYS393 DYS390 DYS19 ** DYS391 DYS385 DYS426 DYS388 DYS439 DYS389I DYS392 DYS389II
Value 13 23 14 11 10-14 12 12 12 13 13 29
**DYS19 is also known as DYS394
Tom's test results show almost 460 Y-DNA matches and they're all with a plethora of surnames. These are the individuals, below, who are surnamed Rogers or Rodgers, many of them not appearing in the above-mentioned Rogers-Rodgers Surname Project. There doesn't appear to be any other descendant of James & Margaret Rodgers within this list. Half of the test takers didn't provide, or don't know, their earliest known paternal ancestor or country of origin, though the other half predominantly provided Ireland or Northern Ireland.

It's pretty clear from the data that the Rodgers were ultimately Scottish in origin, through migrations into Ireland.
