Chronological Timeline:
In October 1836 [exact date missing] in Sumner County, Tennessee, David Vance sold property to Mary Erwin, now widow of Philip Vance:
"for and during the natural life of said Mary Vance and revertible at the death of said Mary Vance to the children of said Mary by the guardian F../T..? Alfred Erwin four in number and to the children of the said Philip Vance deceased by a former Marriage six in number the said ten children being by the will of said Philip Vance deceased Legal joint heirs at the death of said Mary Vance two separate parcels or tract of land situate being and lying in the County and State above named on waters of the west for of Goose Creek containing one hundred and fifty acres more or less, Beginning on Gibsons trace or William Lauderdale's line at a Hackberry the Northwest corner of said tract running thence South sixty four poles and a half to a hackberry thence East three hundred and sixty two poles to a stake thence north sixty four poles and a half the Northeast corner of said tract thence West to the Beginning, also one other tract containing fifty acres more or less Beginning on the south side of the said other tract on a Birch and sugar tree on James ?erys North & South line of his one hundred acre tract running East one hundred poles to two birches thence North eighty poles to a Sugartree on the top of the sandstone ridge thence West one hundred poles to two sugartree and birch on Jas ?asry East boundary line thence South eighty poles to the Beginning. To have and to hold the above described two separate tracts or parcels of land to the said Mary Vance and Revertible at her death to the Heirs of Philip Vance decd. in conformity to the will of said Philip Vance now deceased it being fully understood that the above two tracts of land are subject to the legal demand of the Heirs of Alfred Erwin deceased of one share and one eighth of a share by which I mean to ensignee one eight part of the said two tracts and also one eight part of the share of Wiliam Lock Erwin deceased which compounded one eight of the what with the exception of the claim of the heirs of Alfred Erwin decd. I for myself my heirs executors administrators and assigns do unto the said Mary Vance and at her decease to the heirs of sd. Philip Vance decd. forever warrant and defend the above premises in testimony I have hereunto signed my hand and seal this [blank] day of October 1836."
