The KLAWIK-KLAWIKOWSKI Family
The earliest branches of our Klawikowski family belonged to the Roman Catholic parish of Sierakowice in Kartuzy County, Poland. The parish records first begin in 1706 for baptisms, 1723 for marriages and 1764 for deaths/burials; the ~60 year gap between baptisms and deaths creates a barrier in what we know about the family.
From the research I've conducted, it's fairly clear that Adalbert Klawikowski (generation 1) is almost certainly a younger brother to Andreas Klawikowski (d. 3 Jul 1767; married to Anna NN). They shared many of the same sponsors for the baptisms of their children; the same families/friends from the same corresponding villages, primarily the Pioch family.
From the 1720s to about 1741, both Adalbert and Andreas were using the Klawik surname within the Roman Catholic parish records of Sierakowice. From 1742 and 1743 forward, the families went on to use the Klawikowski surname. This shift from Klawik to Klawikowski was what ultimately held my research back for many years; Michael Klawikowski (generation 2) was baptized as Klawik, while his youngest siblings were baptized as Klawikowski.
