NOTE: This is the first time that Jonathan Adams appears in the personal property tax lists for Harrison County. Margaret Adams' Revolutionary War pension application from 1843 correlates the Jonathan Adams family arriving in the area about 1796.

On 17 Jul 1797 in Harrison County, Virginia, the Arnold family sold 400 acres of land to Jonathan Adams for 140 pounds current money. The property was described as being in Harrison County "on the Brushy fork of Elk Creek adjoining above lands of Levy Wells and lands of James McMoney." The deed was proven by the grantors on the same day.

On 12 Sep 1800 in Burlington County, New Jersey, Jonathan Adams and wife Margaret, of Harrison County, Virginia, sold two tracts of land inherited from his father Alexander Adams, to Ezra Adams for 800 pounds "good and lawful money." Jonathan Adams and wife Margaret swore oath and proved the deed on the same day at the Court of Common Pleas in Burlington County, New Jersey.

On 2 Oct 1843 in Barbour County, Virginia, "Margaret Adams personally appeared in Court and made oath, that the statements made by her in writing contained the truth, and the Court doth hereby certify that they have known the above named Margaret Adams for upwards of Twenty Years (20), and that she was the reputed wife of Jonathan Adams, Deceased who was a pensioner of the United States, and that she resided with him as his wife until his death."
The "statements made by her in writing" refer to Margaret Adams' Revolutionary War pension application, in right of her late husband Jonathan Adams. Within her application she stated she was married to Jonathan Adams in Trenton, New Jersey in the fall of 1791, that they moved to their present residence in Barbour County [then in Harrison County] in 1796, and that he died on 21 Apr 1835.
