On 15 Apr 1782 in Lincoln County, North Carolina, the court "ordered that the judgement of Abraham Scot, James Baird & Nicolas Friday concerning William Newton Pltf. & George Hovis, William Massey & Joseph Massey Deft. shall stand good & valid & that exn. issue immediately against this property for debt & cost."

On 7 Oct 1782 in Lincoln County, North Carolina, the county court directed the sheriff "that of the goods and chattels lands and tenements of George Hovis in your bailiwick you cause to be made the sum of 21 pounds 7 shillings and 3 pence which lately in the county court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions at Lincoln, William Newton recovered against him for damage and cost of suit in that behalf expended whereof the said George Hovis is convicted and liable as appears of ___ together with your fees for this service and have you the said monies before the said court at Lincoln the first Monday in January next to render to the same William Newton his damage and cost aforesaid."
