Documenting my ancestors and helping others with their research.
The SCOTT Family
Scott Family from America:
Generation 1: John Scott & Letitia McKendrick
Generation 2: Patrick Scott & Ailsey Hampton
Generation 3: Mary A. Scott & Hays Rodgers
Autosomal DNA testing has shown a trend of triangulated matches with descendants of a family surnamed York. Using DNA Painter, I have narrowed these DNA matches down with two documented Rodgers cousins:
Chromosome 7 with Patricia Larkin:
Our mutual connection is through Allen Rodgers and his second wife Nancy Abigail Chatham.
Chromosome 14 with Lonnie Blaylock:
We have two mutual connections: 1) through the Blaylock family; 2) through Allen Rodgers and his first wife Judith Walker McGehee.
Thus, the connection to these York descendants is likely through the ancestors of Allen Rodgers, son of Hays Rodgers and Mary A. Scott. We know from previous genealogy research and autosomal DNA research that Hays Rodgers was the son of James Rodgers and Elly Hays; James himself a son of James and Margaret Rodgers, while Elly was daughter of Nicholas Hays and Ally/Elly Hunter. Considering this, we must look towards Mary A. Scott's unknown background.
Not much is known about Mary A. Scott, other than she was born in 1797 in Georgia.
There were very few Scott families in the area when she was married to Hays Rodgers on 15 Dec 1816 in Clarke County, Mississippi Territory. Clarke County became Alabama a year later, in 1817. Neighboring Monroe County (towards the East) was formed several years prior in 1815, as a result of the Creek Cession of 1814.
