On 15 Jul 1907, Gustav Wm. H. Martens, son of Carl Gust Martens and Auguste L. Luebke, a farmer in the Town of Polar, born in Germany, was married to Maria Sum, daughter of Johann G. Summ and Maria Blume, born in Antigo. They were white. Marriage license number 895, dated 15 Jul 1907. Married at 2pm on July 15, 1907 at Ev. Luth. St. Petri Church in the Town of Polar. The witnesses were Carl Sum, Hedwig Kieper, Wm. Martens and Clara Brandt. The marriage was performed by C. D. Griese of Langlade County. Certificate dated 24 Jul 1907 and registered 29 Jul 1907.
On 9 Apr 1918 at the courthouse in Antigo, Langlade County, Wisconsin, Gustav Marten Jr. filed his Declaration of Intention, the first step of the naturalization process.
The document states he was a 35 year old farmer residing in Polar, Wisconsin, with his wife Mary Marten. He was born on 22 Jun 1882 in "Grossenfeldt, Germany" and immigrated aboard the Hohenzollern from Bremen, Germany to Baltimore, Maryland on or about 21 May 1883. His wife Mary Marten was born in Antigo, Wisconsin. He was physically described as having a fair complexion, being 5'9" and 164lbs, with dark hair and brown eyes; he had a "scar on left side of [his] forehead."

The document states he was a farmer residing in Polar, Langlade County, Wisconsin, and that he was born on 22 Jun 1882 in "Grossenfeldt, Germany." He emigrated through Bremen, Germany on or about 1 Apr 1883 and arrived in Baltimore, Maryland on or about 21 May 1883, aboard the Hohenzollern. His wife was Marie Marten, who was born in Antigo, Wisconsin and resided with her husband. Their children were also listed as all having been born and residing in Polar, Wisconsin:
