On 15 Jul 1907, Gustav Wm. H. Martens, son of Carl Gust Martens and Auguste L. Luebke, a farmer in the Town of Polar, born in Germany, was married to Maria Sum, daughter of Johann G. Summ and Maria Blume, born in Antigo. They were white. Marriage license number 895, dated 15 Jul 1907. Married at 2pm on July 15, 1907 at Ev. Luth. St. Petri Church in the Town of Polar. The witnesses were Carl Sum, Hedwig Kieper, Wm. Martens and Clara Brandt. The marriage was performed by C. D. Griese of Langlade County. Certificate dated 24 Jul 1907 and registered 29 Jul 1907.

On 9 Apr 1918 at the courthouse in Antigo, Langlade County, Wisconsin, Gustav Marten Jr. filed his Declaration of Intention, the first step of the naturalization process.
The document states he was a 35 year old farmer residing in Polar, Wisconsin, with his wife Mary Marten. He was born on 22 Jun 1882 in "Grossenfeldt, Germany" and immigrated aboard the Hohenzollern from Bremen, Germany to Baltimore, Maryland on or about 21 May 1883. His wife Mary Marten was born in Antigo, Wisconsin. He was physically described as having a fair complexion, being 5'9" and 164lbs, with dark hair and brown eyes; he had a "scar on left side of [his] forehead."

On 7 Oct 1919, The Farmers Journal of Antigo, Wisconsin published an article:
"POLAR
Mrs. Emma Walker was a called at the Gust Marten home Saturday.
Gust Marten, Jr., and three children, Harold, Sylvia and Leonard, spent Saturday at the John Summ home helping pick potatoes.
Miss Annie Schuman spent Sunday afternoon at the Wm. Martin home.
Gust Marten and Jesse Walker made a trip to Elton Sunday to buy honey from John Wigerham.
Mr. Taylor of Elton had the misfourtune to break his car while on his way to Antigo, Sunday. Gust Marten brought his car to Polar and took Mr. Taylor home.
Gust Marten and son, Harold, went to Antigo Monday with a load of grain."

Sunday callers at the Gus Marten home were: Mr. and Mrs. John Summ and two sons, Herman and Marcus; and Mr. and Mrs. John Summ and daughter, Margaret, all of Norwood.

The 1920 federal census has Otto Martin enumerated on 9 Feb 1920 within the Township of Polar, Langlade County, Wisconsin, along with his father Gustav Martin; appearing on sheet 12A. His siblings William Martin and Gust Martin, and mother Augusta Martin appear on sheet 9B.

On 10 Apr 1920 at the courthouse in Antigo, Langlade County, Wisconsin, Gustav Martin Jr. filed his Petition for Naturalization, the last step of the naturalization process.
The document states he was a farmer residing in Polar, Langlade County, Wisconsin, and that he was born on 22 Jun 1882 in "Grossenfeldt, Germany." He emigrated through Bremen, Germany on or about 1 Apr 1883 and arrived in Baltimore, Maryland on or about 21 May 1883, aboard the Hohenzollern. His wife was Marie Marten, who was born in Antigo, Wisconsin and resided with her husband. Their children were also listed as all having been born and residing in Polar, Wisconsin:
