Chronological Timeline:
On 16 Oct 1856 through the port of New York, John Phil. Sprengling immigrated aboard the SS Caroline. The manifest states he was 24 years old and a missionary from Hessen-Darmstadt. He was traveling to Wisconsin with three trunks of luggage and stayed in the "first cabin on deck" with a clergyman and another missionary.

The 1860 federal census has Johan Sprengling enumerated on 2 Jun 1860 near Newtonburgh PO in Newton, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin. His household consisted of the following:

On 13 Jun 1862 in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, August Gottlieb Lebrecht Eichhorst and wife Elisabeth sold property to Johann Philipp Sprengling, of Sheboygan County, for $1. THe property was "described as Lots Number Two (2) Three (3) and Six (6) in Block Number Two (2) in the Sixty (6th) formerly Second (2nd) Ward of the City of Milwaukee." The witnesses to the deed were A. Rosenthal and Fred. C. Winkler. August Gottlieb Lebrecht Eichhorst and wife Elisabeth proved the deed on the same day and it was recorded on 8 Sep 1862. The index entry for this deed states it was delivered to John Yunker.
This property was later sold on 9 Mar 1871, by Johann Phillip Sprengling and Julianne his wife of Beaver Dam, Dodge County, to Friedrich Mayer of Milwaukee for $400. The witnesses to the deed were G. Stolz and Theodor Hutts. Johann Phillip Sprengling and Julianne his wife proved the deed on 16 Mar 1871, and the deed was recorded on 18 Mar 1871.

On 25 Jan 1881 in Outagamie County, Wisconsin, articles of incorporation were filed by Wilhelm Techlin, Phillip Brown, Wilhelm Koss, Carl Rahmbro, Frederich Rehmer, Franz Dettman and Ernst Koss. They were members of the newly-formed "Die Deutsche Evangelische Lutherische St. Johannes Gemeinde."
Previously, on 16 and 23 Jan 1881, "being two successive sabbaths; due notice was given publicly by Rev. Phillip Sprengling the pastor of said church or society of a meeting of said church or society to be hed on Monday the 24th day of January AD 1881 at ten o'clock in the forenoon at the church building in the town of Center, the usual place of public worship of the said church or society, for the purpose of acting and voting upon the matter of the incorporation of said society according to the laws of the State of Wisconsin, and for the election of trustees."

The 1912 published history on the History of Monroe County [Wisconsin] by Randolph A. Richards states:
"FRIEDEN'S CHURCH, TOWN OF LITTLE FALLS.
From 1882-1888 this preaching station was supplied with the Word of God by Rev. Phillip Sprengling, a graduate from the seminary at Milwaukee, who sat at the feet of Dr. A. L. Graebner, a recognized authority on the history of the Lutheran church in America."
NOTE: This refers to son Rev. Philipp Fred Sprengling (1858-1941); he was recently graduated from seminary in Milwaukee and began preaching the same year his father died.
