On 25 Sep 1852 through the port of New York, son Andreas Sprengling immigrated aboard the SS Edwina. The manifest states he was 29 years old, a farmer and from Hesse.
He seems to have been traveling with a man named George Stallmann, aged 27, who is presumably a relative of his step-mother Katharina Mai; Katharina Mai's mother was a Stallmann.

On 18 Oct 1854 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, John H. Senne & his wife Barbara mortgaged a property to Catherina Sprengling for $1,000. The property was described as "Lot nine and the East one third of Lot twelve in Block forty five in the second Ward of the City of Milwaukee and the buildings thereon." John H. & Barbara Senn stated they would be responsible for taxes and assessments of every nature, as well as $50 for attorney's fees. The witnesses to the deed were A. Henry Bielfeld JP and Lorenz Minkler. John H. & Barbara Senn swore oath and proved the deed on 18 Oct 1854 and the deed was recorded the same day. The full entry states the mortgage was delivered to Peter Sprengling.
NOTE: This property is presently located near the corner of W Highland Ave. and N 6th St. in Milwaukee. This is now a parking lot, directly across the street from the Fiserv Forum.

The Wisconsin state census for 1855 has Mrs. Sprenglin enumerated within Ward 1 of Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. Her household consisted of three females all of foreign birth; presumably herself and two daughters.

On 28 Aug 1855 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, Catharina Sprengling was released from a mortgage to John H. Senne & his wife Barbara. The original mortgaged is referenced as being in volume 26 on page 449-450, dated 18 Oct 1854. The witnesses to the deed were Charles F. Bode JP and Edward Hoffmann. Catharina Sprengling herself swore oath and proved the deed on 28 Aug 1855. The deed was recorded on the same day.

On 16 Oct 1856 through the port of New York, son John Phil. Sprengling immigrated aboard the SS Caroline. The manifest states he was 24 years old and a missionary from Hessen-Darmstadt. He was traveling to Wisconsin with three trunks of luggage and stayed in the "first cabin on deck" with a clergyman and another missionary.

Katharina Mai cannot be located in the 1860 or 1870 federal censuses. There is a gap of knowledge of her whereabouts from approximately 1855 to 1880.
The 1860 federal census shows daughter Barbara Spingling enumerated on 11 Jun 1860 in the 7th Ward of Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. She was living as a servant in the household of lawyer George W. Chapman, a native of Massachusetts.

The 1880 census has Cath. Sprengling enumerated on 30 Jun 1880 at the Milwaukee Insane Asylum in Wauwatosa, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. She was listed as 79 years old, widowed, insane and born in Germany.

The death record for Catherine Springling [Katharina Mai] states she died on 8 Mar 1881 at the "Milwaukee Co. Insane Asylum" of senile debility. She was listed as an 80 year old housewife born in Germany. The death record was returned by James H. McBride MD on 8 Mar 1881. The place of burial is blank.
The second volume of burials for Union Cemetery in Milwaukee shows Katharina Springling being buried within the cemetery on 10 Mar 1881. She was buried in Section W4, Range 9, Number 18N and the costs were $5.00
