Their marriage record states William was a carpenter residing in Newton and was born in "Reidel Rhein provinz Prussia" to John & Gertrude Stumpges.
Johanna Horn was born to Gottlieb Theodore & Christian A. Horn. They were married in a M. E. church [Methodist Episcopal?] by J. F. Leipraudt in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
The Tribune of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, published an article on 19 Sep 1867:
"Sales of Real Estate -
The following is the balance of the real estate sales for the month of August:
F. Horn to W. Stumpges, lots 9 & 12, in blk 6, Village of Neshoto, for $300."
The Door County Advocate of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, published an article on 13 Jan 1881:
"Personal Mention.
Wm. Stumpges, of Clay Banks, made us a pleasant call Monday."
The Door County Advocate of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, published an article on 31 Mar 1881:
"Throughout The County.
Wm. Stumpges has rented his farm in the town of Clay Banks to John Matheson and removed to Horn's Pier. Mr. S. has been very sick with lung fever during the past winter but is now able to be about again as usual."
The Door County Advocate of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, published an article on 16 Jun 1881:

The Door County Advocate of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, published an article on 9 Nov 1882:
"Horn's Pier
During the temporary absence of William Stumpges, one day last week, a couple of fellows called at his house. They supposed that they had chosen the best time for their visit, but in this they were grievously mistaken. Perhaps they would not have made such a blunder if they had been sober, but having saturated themselves with moonshine whiskey they were ready for any act of folly. It is not exactly known what their object was in calling upon the family, but whatever that object was it was so highly displeasing to Mrs. Stumpges that she proceeded to clean out her obnoxious visitors in a way that they despised. In less than five minutes the lady made their heads so intimately acquainted with an oaken club that they tumbled over each other in their hurry to get out of the front grate. It is regretted that the fellows did not await the return of Mr. Stumpges. Had they done so they would have had a steady job of digging out a half-pound of shot presented to them-with his compliments."
The Weekly Expositor Independent of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, published an article on 15 May 1885:
"Hailey's Harbor.
A little rumpus took place between David Hamel and William Stumpges on last Monday, and the latter had the former arrested. The court fined the defendant $1.00 and costs, which amounted in all to $11.20; and Jake Appel was also taxed $6.50 for a similar offense."
The Door County Advocate of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, published an article on 28 May 1885:
"Around The County.
Hailey's Harbor.
Wm. Stumpges, of Horn's pier, has been working at the carpenter trade for some week's back in this village and vicinity, and on Monday next he will begin the erection of a residence for Thomas Toseland. The building is to be 24x24 feet, one story high, and located near the mill."
The Door County Advocate of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, published an article on 10 Jun 1886:
"Horn's Pier
Mrs. Wm. Steumpges has been so ill for several week that it was feared at one time that she could not possibly survive, but at last reports her condition was more favorable. She is suffering from an affection of the kidneys."
The Door County Advocate of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, published an article on 6 Jan 1887:
"Horn's Pier
Wm. Stumpges and family have removed to the west shore of Green Bay, and it is believed that they have bidden a final adieu to Horn's Pier and Door county.
Willie Horn is expected from Chicago in a week or two to remain for some time looking after his father's interestes in this section."
The 1900 federal census has Wm. Stumpges enumerated on 19 Jun 1900 in the northern precinct of Mt. Vernon in Skagit County, Washington. He was listed as a boarder in the household of Daniel Healey. It appears William was a "saw mill owner" and we can only presume the "day laborer" men in the same household helped run the mill. William is listed as being born in June 1834 in Germany, was a widower and was a naturalized citizen, having immigrated in 1849.
