On 15 Jul 1846 within page 3 of the Southern Tribune, published in Aberdeen, Mississippi, appeared an advertisement mentioning William P. Chatham and his former property:
"Farm for sale
The subscribe having declined moving to the south, for the present, offers for sale the beautiful, healthy and fertile Farm formerly owned, and now occupied by William P. Chatham, four miles South East from Pontotoc, on the Aberdeen road. A Particular discription of this farm is deemed unnecessary, as all who have traveled that road have seen and admired it. From the peculiar location of this Place, it being on a Public road that is much traveled, with the expenditure of a small sum of money in suitable and tasty improvement, would be very valuable as a place of entertainment, whose pure cooling water and refreshing shade would iresistably attact the weary traveler.
The Subscriber will make the terms very reasonable: and will sell for Negroes, Cotton or Cash. For further particulars apply to W. P. Chatham, on the Premises; or to the Subscriber at Belville, state of Illinois.
A. G. Bragg"
